2012 marks 143 years since we were founded, the fifth anniversary of formally placing our corporate values at the heart of everything we do, and a year since we launched our 20x20 Sustainability Plan.

As part of the launch of our new 20x20 reporting suite, we brought selected partners and stakeholders together on 21 November to:

  • share our latest research intocustomer and stakeholder attitudes to sustainability and trust
  • discuss our progress so far and the challenges ahead
  • develop solutions and ways to go further and faster

The event was chaired by Sally Uren, Deputy Chief Executive of Forum for the Future, with:

  • Justin King, CEO Sainsbury's
  • Anna Ford, Non Executive Director and Chair of Sainsbury's Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Committee
  • Our 20x20 sustainability plan delivery team

Using recently gained customer insights, as well as valuable insights into our 20x20 Sustainability Plan from partners and stakeholders (including our recent Green Mondays event), this senior-level event will be an important opportunity for us to discuss with our stakeholders how we'll develop our plan over the next eight years.

New-Fashioned Values

A report published today by Sainsbury’s shows how the behaviours and expectations of British shoppers are undergoing deep and sustained change, as ‘new-fashioned values’ emerge to balance the aspirations and demands of an increasingly sophisticated and educated consumer forced into managing squeezed budgets.
