Bath Odd Down

Bath Odd Down

Bath Odd Down is Sainsbury's first Community Store, where we are using renewable energy and rainwater to reduce not only our own carbon footprint, but also that of the neighbouring community.

The store features a range of renewable technologies, including the first UK installation of new cylindrical solar PV technology. Designed for flat roofs, this is lighter and easier to install than other solar technology.

We also plan to supply renewable heat energy to a sheltered housing complex, which is due to be built next to the Bath Odd Down store in 2012. Here we will provide our neighbours with renewable heat from a wood-fuelled biomass boiler, water for their gardens from rainwater harvesting, and renewable power for electric vehicles from the sun.
