For Sainsbury's, corporate responsibility means many things. It is about providing our customers with the widest choice of quality food, at fair prices. But also about paying our suppliers a fair price and providing the reassurance of knowing that they have a buyer for their products on reasonable terms. It means enriching our communities through employment and career development opportunities, while growing our business profitably for our shareholders. And it means making the most effective use of our valuable resources like water and electricity, and respecting the local environment.
The Sainsbury's 20 by 20 Sustainability Plan sets out 20 bold targets, which we plan to meet by 2020. The targets have been designed to bring about a step change in relation to the most important issues facing our business. The commitments cover specific issues relating to each of our five values. We have developed them by reviewing our previous targets and activities, as well as the results of our materiality process and customer research.
These commitments are not the only things we focus on. We also continue to make improvements based on a much broader range of issues that, for us, constitute 'business as usual'.
