We rely on the 150,000 colleagues working in our stores, offices and depots to provide great service for our customers every single day. They are the face of Sainsbury's, and crucial to our business goals. So being 'A great place to work' is naturally important to us.
Sainsbury's said today that 5,000 additional seasonal jobs will be created this year, to meet increased demand from customers over the busy Christmas and New Year period.
Sainsbury’s has today confirmed three new hires to its Marketing leadership team.
I want you to think back to when you were little, around 6 years old. What was your favourite childhood pretend game? Teacher, doctor, princess, vet… the list is endless. Mine was shopkeeper. I loved nothing more than dressing my fruit displays, filling my trolley with canned fish and swiping my items through my mini cash register. I’m not sure how many times my poor mother bought garden peas, but she was well on her way to a million Nectar points!
Earlier this month I was asked to host a table at Sainsbury’s Long Service Dinner at the Lancaster Hotel, London. The Dinner, held annually and attended by the Operating Board including Chief Executive Justin King, is a long-standing tradition at Sainsbury’s and an opportunity to celebrate those colleagues that have over 25 years’ service with us.

I think it is fantastic that Sainsbury's is supporting staff for a long and happy career. Did you know Deborah that any of your staff who are thinking about retirement could benefit on a Retail Trust Retirement Estate? We look after retired retailers so please feel free to spread the word to staff thinking of retiring now or in the future. Staff can find out more at http://www.retailtrust.org.uk/retirement/why-retail-trust/115/3/4 or take a 360C tour of any of our five estates throughout the UK.
Justin King, the Chief Executive of Sainsbury’s, has been awarded a Fellowship by the International Visual Communication Association (IVCA), for his work in leading a company that is effective at engaging with colleagues and championing CSR values.
Sainsbury’s has created 15,000 new seasonal jobs this year, to meet increased demand from customers over the busy Christmas and New Year period and to provide an even better service.
Let me quickly tell you a bit about myself. My name is Lauren and I graduated from Durham University this June with a degree in History. I had applied for the Sainsbury’s graduate scheme way back in August 2011, so in amongst revising for finals and writing my dissertation I was also going through the interview process that some of you reading this may yourself be going through now. All I can say is “keep going” - it will be worth the hard work!

By way of introduction, I am planning to pursue Msc in Retail Management from Cranfield Business School this year. Before I take on this course, it would be great if you could provide me with some advice on the state of the retail business in the UK and the job market going forward. I would be highly grateful if you could spare a few minutes for a quick mail where I can discuss my profile and motivations in more detail. Kind Regards, Navpreet Singh Ahuja (navpreet_ahuja@yahoo.co.in)
This week Roger Burnley, Sainsbury’s Retail and Logistics Director, opened our 1,000th store at Irvine, Scotland. This was a fantastic achievement and shows just how far Sainsbury’s has come since John James and Mary Sainsbury opened the first store 142 years ago on London’s Drury Lane.
5,000 Sainsbury’s colleagues from all over the UK have descended en masse to the Olympic Park today (Monday 3 September) to celebrate Sainsbury’s sponsorship of the London 2012 Paralympics Games. They will get the opportunity to watch Paralympic sport in action – including wheelchair basketball, blind football, goalball and wheelchair tennis.
Once and for all I hope to put to bed the myth that all graduates do is ‘stack shelves’ in store. In this blog I will share some of my experiences to date and reveal from the “horse’s mouth” just what you can really expect on the Sainsbury’s 2020 Leaders Programme.
