Working in partnership

One of the most important ways we are making progress in sourcing is working more closely with our farmers and growers, both in the UK and overseas.

Ethical trading

Our Code of Conduct for Ethical Trade covers the employment practices we expect from our suppliers, both in the UK and abroad.

Working with the Woodland Trust

Free range eggs from hens that are free to roam and forage in woodlands have featured in Sainsbury’s stores since 2004, following farmer John Widdowson’s observations on how his hens preferred the shade and protection of trees.

Horticulture and Agriculture Apprenticeship Scheme

Big Data Research and Development Grant

In 2014, Sainsbury’s Agriculture Research and Development Grant is focused on projects that generate large amounts of data as part of their output. We're calling on Sainsbury's farmers, growers and suppliers to apply for research and development support on projects that will help build more efficient, resilient and secure agriculture supply chains.

Sainsbury’s Farming Scholars Programme

Sainsbury’s Farming Scholarship is a one-year programme that enables motivated farmers and growers that supply Sainsbury’s to explore a common theme critical to the future success of their businesses. The group will share learning from their own experiences, visit experts in the subject being studied and receive input on the science underpinning the theme, from our partners in the scholarship, Imperial College.
